What a singing bowl is
A singing bowl is a metal bowl that produces a long, layered tone when you strike it or move a mallet around its rim. Bowls from Nepal and the Himalayas are traditionally hand-hammered, which is why every bowl sounds different.
What people use it for
- Meditation: the fading sound gives the mind something simple to follow.
- Relaxation and evening rituals: many people play a bowl to slow down before sleep.
- Yoga and sound baths: to open or close a practice.
- Vibrational massage: compact bowls are placed directly on the body.
A singing bowl is a tool for relaxation and attention. It does not replace medical treatment.
How to use it in five minutes
- Sit comfortably and rest the bowl on your flat palm or a cushion.
- Strike the side gently and listen until the sound fully fades.
- Then move the mallet slowly around the outer rim to make the bowl "sing".
- Breathe in rhythm with the sound. Finish with a minute of silence.

How to choose your first bowl
Size changes the voice: small bowls sound higher, large bowls deeper and more physical. A medium bowl is the most versatile start. See singing bowl sizes and listen to the bowls in our collection: most have a recording of that exact bowl.
